From Download to Your
First Transaction
Getting started with Kaspa Wallet takes under a minute. Follow these five steps and you will be sending and receiving KAS with full self-custody.
The Five Steps
Download and Install
Visit the Download page and choose the installer for your operating system — Windows (.exe), macOS (.dmg), or Linux (.AppImage). The install process is standard: run the installer, follow the prompts, and launch the app. No admin account or cloud sign-in is needed. Kaspa Wallet runs entirely on your machine.
Always verify the SHA256 checksum of your downloaded file before installing.
Create Your Wallet
On first launch, choose "Create new wallet." The app generates a new private key and wallet address entirely on your device using a cryptographically secure random number generator. No internet connection is required for this step — key generation happens locally and the keys never leave your machine. You will then be asked to set a strong passphrase to encrypt your wallet file on disk.
Use a passphrase you will remember — if you forget it and lose your seed phrase, there is no recovery.
Secure Your Recovery Phrase
After wallet creation, the app will display your 12 or 24-word BIP39 recovery phrase. This is the master key to your wallet. Write it down on paper — in order — and store it somewhere safe and offline. Do not take a screenshot, do not store it in a note-taking app, and do not share it with anyone. Anyone who has this phrase can access your KAS from any compatible wallet. The app will ask you to confirm the phrase before proceeding.
Your seed phrase is the only way to recover your wallet if your device is lost, stolen, or fails.
Add KAS to Your Wallet
Your wallet is now ready to receive KAS. Open the "Receive" tab to see your KAS address — a string starting with "kaspa:". Share this address with whoever is sending you KAS. You can also use the QR code shown in the app. The wallet connects directly to Kaspa network nodes, so your balance updates in real time as the network processes incoming transactions. There is no account to log into and no approval needed from any third party.
Send and Receive KAS
To send KAS, open the "Send" tab, enter the recipient's kaspa: address and the amount, then confirm with your wallet passphrase. The transaction is signed locally on your device and broadcast directly to the Kaspa network. Thanks to Kaspa's blockDAG architecture — which processes 10 blocks per second — your transaction appears on the network almost instantly and receives confirmation in around 10 seconds. No waiting, no batch processing, no delays.
Transaction fees on Kaspa are minimal and paid in KAS — no third-party gas tokens required.
Why Kaspa Is Different: BlockDAG
Traditional blockchains produce one block at a time. Kaspa produces many blocks simultaneously.
Most proof-of-work blockchains — like Bitcoin — allow only one miner to win each round. All other blocks mined at the same time are discarded as orphans, wasting computational work and limiting throughput.
Kaspa uses a blockDAG (Block Directed Acyclic Graph) called GHOSTDAG. Instead of discarding competing blocks, GHOSTDAG orders them all into a single consistent ledger. This allows the network to run at 10 blocks per second while maintaining the same security guarantees as a traditional chain.
The result for Kaspa Wallet users: your transactions confirm in around 10 seconds rather than waiting minutes or hours. The wallet is built from the ground up to handle this speed — displaying real-time balance changes and instant network acknowledgment.
