Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Kaspa Wallet — from setup and security to recovery and fees. Can't find your answer? Ask in our Discord.

Getting Started

  • Kaspa Wallet is a free, open-source, non-custodial desktop wallet for the Kaspa (KAS) cryptocurrency. It lets you store, send, and receive KAS directly on your device without needing to create an account or trust a third party. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Yes. Kaspa Wallet is free to download, free to install, and free to use — forever. It is an open-source community project and will never charge for the software itself. The only costs are the small KAS network transaction fees when you send KAS, which go to miners, not to us.
  • No. Kaspa Wallet requires no account, no email address, no phone number, and no KYC verification. You download the app, create a wallet locally on your device, and you are ready to use it. Your identity is never associated with your wallet address by us.

Security

  • Your private keys are stored exclusively in an encrypted wallet file on your local machine. They are never uploaded to a server, never synced to the cloud, and never transmitted over the network. The wallet file is encrypted with AES-256 using a key derived from your passphrase.
  • No. Kaspa Wallet has no backend servers and collects no user data. The software runs entirely on your device. There is no central authority that could freeze, block, or access your funds. Only the person with your private keys — or your recovery phrase — can authorize transactions.
  • The wallet file is encrypted using AES-256-CBC. The encryption key is derived from your passphrase using PBKDF2 (Password-Based Key Derivation Function 2) with a high iteration count and a random salt, making brute-force attacks computationally expensive even if an attacker obtains the wallet file.

Recovery and Backup

  • Your recovery phrase (also called a seed phrase or mnemonic) is a 12 or 24-word sequence generated when you create your wallet. It encodes your private key in a human-readable format. If your device is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can use this phrase to restore full access to your KAS on any compatible BIP39 wallet. Write it down on paper and store it securely offline.
  • If you lose both your device and your recovery phrase, access to your KAS is permanently lost. There is no central authority or support team that can recover your funds — that is what non-custodial means. This is why you must store your recovery phrase securely before you deposit any KAS. As long as your device is intact and you remember your passphrase, you do not need the recovery phrase.
  • Yes. Install Kaspa Wallet on your new device, choose "Restore wallet," and enter your 12 or 24-word recovery phrase. The wallet will re-derive your private key and reconnect to the Kaspa network, showing your full balance and transaction history. You can also transfer the encrypted wallet file directly to another device.

Transactions and Fees

  • Kaspa's blockDAG processes 10 blocks per second, so transactions appear on the network almost immediately. Full confirmation typically takes around 10 seconds. This is significantly faster than Bitcoin (10 minutes) or Ethereum (12 seconds per block but often multiple blocks for finality).
  • Transaction fees on the Kaspa network are paid in KAS and are generally very small — typically a fraction of a KAS. Fees go directly to the miners who secure the network. Kaspa Wallet does not charge any additional fees on top of the network fee. The current recommended fee is shown in the app before you confirm a send.
  • No. Kaspa Wallet is purpose-built for the Kaspa network and supports only KAS. It does not support Bitcoin, Ethereum, or any other cryptocurrency. This focus allows us to optimize for KAS-specific features like blockDAG transaction handling and real-time balance updates at 10 BPS.

Compatibility

  • Kaspa Wallet currently supports Windows 10 and later, macOS 11 (Big Sur) and later, and any modern 64-bit Linux distribution. iOS and Android mobile versions are in active development. All desktop versions require a 64-bit processor and at least 4 GB of RAM.
  • Yes. If you have a BIP39 recovery phrase from another Kaspa-compatible wallet, you can import it into Kaspa Wallet using the "Restore wallet" option. As long as the other wallet used standard BIP39/BIP32 derivation paths for Kaspa, your address and balance will be accessible.
